Lazy Boots Western Dancers Christmas Crackers Festival 2007  (23rd - 25th November 07)

Report

The Aberavon Beach Hotel at Port Talbot was the venue again for our second Christmas Crackers partner dance festival.  Those that had been at the 2006 event knew that it would be no ordinary dance festival but they had no idea what might happen.  The 'new' guests had heard stories of the madness of last year but were similarly unaware what was in store when they arrived on Friday afternoon.  On Friday evening the theme for the weekend was unveiled - 'COLOURS'.  Each of the 8 table was allocated a team colour, by a draw from a selection of 11 sealed envelopes, with an option to change if they were not satisfied with their chosen colours.  We ended up with Yellow, Green, Red, White, Black, Silver, Gold & Pink teams now competing for points over the weekend in a variety of quizzes, competitions and challenges.  The Blue, Purple and Orange colours were rejected.

The first quiz was on Friday night with the teams being required to think of song titles featuring all of the colours in the draw envelopes.  The Lazy Boots team had already selected a particular song for each colour and bonus points were awarded if the teams guessed any of those songs.  On Saturday the teams were presented with sealed Xmas stockings filled with a variety of items which they had to identify by feeling through the fabric of the sock, and plates of old-fashioned sweets which they also had identify.  Also on Saturday we held a Remote controlled football cup competition in our very own 'Wobbly Stadium'.  Definite patches of colour started to appear around the ballroom as the teams started to impose their mark on the tables and clothing.  Points were being claimed for singing 'colour' songs, making coloured items and even dressing in a yellow polka dot bikini.  The teams were also set their challenges for Sunday which were to decorate their table in their colour theme and to make a Christmas hat also themed to their colour.

On Sunday the table decorating really started to take shape leading up to the judging by Jim Worton our lunchtime entertainer.  Tables were judged in 4 categories - Originality, Effort, Creativity and Wow Factor, with a total of 200 points available.  The winning table was the Green team with their replica of Caernarvon Castle.  The hats were judged on the same basis in the evening and this time the winner was the Black team with a space rocket theme which related to their 'Sky At Night' table theme.  During the daytime we also had a fun competition 'Siamese Gift Wrapping' which was hilarious fun.

The team event was eventually won by the 'Yellow' team who just happened to be the 'Bears' who won last year.  Time for a change of format to make sure they don't win next year!!

Entertainment during the weekend was from Dane Stevens on Friday evening, Clear Cut on Saturday, Jim Worton on Sunday lunchtime and Muddy Boots on Sunday night.  A star-studded line-up which delivered everything you would expect - superb music and entertainment all weekend.

Dance instruction was provided by Terry & Caroline French and Ken & Dorothy Harrison.  For the step  sheets of the dances taught follow the link below.
