Lazy Boots Western Dancers Christmas Crackers Festival 2006  (24th - 26th November 06)

Report

Christmas Crackers 2006 was our very first partner only festival.  We had decided that we did not want 'just another Tinsel & Turkey' weekend, hence the name, and then we wanted it to be fun!!  The guests turning up on Friday afternoon had little idea what was in store for them, and when we set them up in teams named after Christmas icons such as 'Trees', 'Snowmen', 'Reindeer' and more, they started to get a bit confused.  Friday evening was fairly tame, with a couple of simple quizzes to gain points for their teams.  Friday night's entertainer was Tony Rouse and he really got the weekend off to a terrific start.

On Saturday morning, the fun started in earnest with more competitions and games.  There were radio controlled cars, caption competitions, make your own Christmas Crackers and any feeble excuse for gaining points for songs, sketches or tenuous links related to their team names.  Table decorations started to appear and the judges were kept busy awarding points.  And on top of this we still had time for dance instruction from Terry & Caroline and Jeff & Thelma as well as lots of social dancing.  On Saturday night we had a full Christmas dinner and everyone dressed in their finest glittery outfits for the party night.  The evening's entertainment was provided by Clear Cut, Don & Darren all the way from Leeds in Yorkshire and their long journey was not wasted.  Santa also paid a visit and handed out the prizes for the Naffle (don't worry.. you had to be there!!). As usual the disco went on into the early hours.

On Sunday morning the main challenge was set for the teams to dress their tables in the theme of their team name, the competition was won by the Bears with their Bear Mountain, the competition was judged by our lunchtime entertainer Hayden between his 2 fantastic sets.  The competition reached fever pitch in the afternoon and a challenge was thrown down by the guests for the Lazy Boots team to dress their table in the theme of a Xmas Fireplace.  Well ken got to work and produced a terrific tableau with mantlepiece, Xmas stockings, carrots for the reindeer and mince pies for Santa.  And still we had time for more dance instruction, social dancing and silly games.  The Lazy Boots fireplace tableau was eventually disqualified despite having amassed enough points to put the Lazy Boots team at the top of the points table.

On Sunday night we were spectacularly entertained by American Spirit for 3 great sets.  The team competition ended with the 'Trees' as the winners closely followed by the 'Bears'.  More disco until late and then off to bed.  After a hearty breakfast goodbyes all round and time to head for home.
